Astro 201: A Space Odyssey

Hey Astro 201, this is a picture from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. I love music, movies and space, and this film has it all. There is no single piece of media that has ever made me wonder so far into the curiosities of human travel through time and space. What is really absurd about this movie is that despite his incredibly accurate depictions of space (including a stellar view of earth), the movie was made before we ever stepped foot on the moon.

This is so cool! My first blog ever! This picture is of the cake my friends made me for my first birthday away from home, which is in the great state of Michigan! I have a lot of state pride, which is somewhat unique among Michiganders. Despite the fact that Detroit and the entire economy of Michigan is recovering, Detroit’s reputation makes me the butt of many of my friends’ jokes. That’s why the cake my friends made for me was quite possibly the most thoughtful birthday present I ever received!Image

Rainbow Orion

An image of the Orion Nebula from NASA’s Spitzer and Hubble Space Telescopes.  The image is composed of light collected in infrared, visible, and ultraviolet wavelengths.  At the bright yellow center of the image are four stars called the Trapezium which are 100,000 times brighter than the sun.  Located 1,500 light years from Earth, the Nebula is visible with binoculars.

Hey everyone, my name is Suruj D and I’m majoring in Electrical engineering with a minor in computer science. As you might have guessed from the picture above, I love soccer! I love watching it and playing it. My favorite team is Manchester City from the Premier League and I’ve been a City fan for almost 6 or 7 years now. We weren’t that good back then and all my friends used to tease me for supporting a “bad team”. But I remained loyal and just last year, City finally won the league after 44 years beating out archrivals Manchester United. It was a dream come true for me.

This stadium is Anfield, in Liverpool, England.  It was opened in 1884, and it is home to my favorite soccer team, Liverpool FC.  I plan on working and living in England after graduating, and I cannot wait to be able to see a match here.  It is one of the most historic stadiums in England, and I think visiting this place would be incredible.
