More than\u00a050 faculty participants from the School of Engineering, College of Arts and Science, and the School of Medicine inspire students by creating an atmosphere of excitement and creativity. Each REU participant will work directly with VINSE faculty members and their research groups and be part of the larger VINSE community.<\/p>\n<p>The VINSE REU has a record of success, 95% of former VINSE NSF REU students attend graduate school or work in STEM related fields.\u00a0 Many have received several awards and honors including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>23 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships (another 13 honorable mentions)<\/li>\n<li>7 Goldwater Fellowships<\/li>\n<li>3 SMART Fellowships<\/li>\n<li>3 NDSEG Fellowships<\/li>\n<li>1 Rhodes Scholar<\/li>\n<li>1 Gates Cambridge Fellowship<\/li>\n<li>1 NASA Graduate Fellowship<\/li>\n<li>1 PD Soros Award for New Americans<\/li>\n<li>3 NIH Awards: 1 Graduate Fellowship, 1 Postbac ITRA, 1 Oxford-Cambridge Scholar<\/li>\n<li>&gt;57% of former REU students have (or are expected to) co-author a journal publication<\/li>\n<li>More than half of our former REU students have given a presentation at a National Conferences, many funded by the REU site<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PROGRAM INCLUDES<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hands-on research in state-of-the-art facilities<\/li>\n<li>Seminars, workshops, and field trips<\/li>\n<li>Group social activities and banquet<\/li>\n<li>Optional outreach opportunities to high school students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ELIGIBILITY<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undergraduate students majoring in science or engineering<\/li>\n<li>U.S. Citizen or permanent resident<\/li>\n<li>Minorities and women strongly encouraged to apply<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AWARD<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$7,000 stipend<\/li>\n<li>$500 travel allowance<\/li>\n<li>Room and board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/vinse\/reu\/index.php\">Click here for information or to apply<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) focuses on interdisciplinary nanoscale research at the interface of chemistry, physics, biology and engineering.
