Ndukaife\u2019s group focuses on multidisciplinary research including plasmonic and resonant dielectric nanostructures for efficient nano-optical trapping, manipulation, enhanced spectroscopy, and sensing of nanoscale objects. Sen\u2019s recent publication in <em>Nano Letters<\/em> demonstrates an approach to improve the quality factor and field enhancement through engineering slots within a zigzag array of elliptical silicon resonators in the mid-IR. By introducing slots, the electric field intensity enhancement near the apex and the quality factor of the quasi-BIC resonance are increased by a factor of 2.1 and 3.3, respectively, in comparison to the structure without slots.
