Complete and submit this no later than January 17, 5:00 PM Central Time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Late surveys will not be accepted.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Package due <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">February 15<\/span>. <\/strong>Applications must be received by 5:00 PM Central Time.<\/p>\n<p>All materials must be emailed to the <a href=\"mailto:melissa.krasnove@vanderbilt.edu?subject=TSPS%20Application%20\">program manager<\/a> in a <strong>single PDF<\/strong> document ordered as below. The program manager will not compile applications. <em>Late applications will not be accepted. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The application should include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cover letter.<\/li>\n<li>Applicant\u2019s NIH biosketch.<\/li>\n<li>Applicant\u2019s full CV using the Vanderbilt School of Medicine CV template: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vumc.org\/faculty\/required-format-curriculum-vitae\">Link to CV Format<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Abstract; not more than 30 lines (separate page).<\/li>\n<li>Research proposal and career development plan \u2013 10 pages maximum including the specific aims, research proposal, figures, and career development plan. References are not included in the page limit. Font: Arial 11 pt. with 0.5\u201d margins.<\/li>\n<li>Mentor letter (signed by either primary or all mentors).<\/li>\n<li>Primary mentor&#8217;s NIH biosketch.<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) additional letters of reference \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">do not submit more than 2 additional letters<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Any prior application for an extramural career development award. (Include abstract, aims, and body [approx. 12 pages]; do not include budget, environment, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cover Letter<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The letter should briefly summarize the candidate\u2019s prior research experience, the desirability of a mentored research experience, and the perceived synergy between the candidate\u2019s interests and the background and resources of the mentor(s) in no more than two pages. If the applicant has already applied for an extramural award (such as an F or K award) this should be indicated in the cover letter, and a copy of the award application should be provided with the candidate\u2019s application.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Research Proposal and Career Development Plan<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The goal of the research proposal section of the application is to give review committee members an overview of the research question under scrutiny and to outline the approach that will be used to conduct the research. The goal of the career development plan is to describe how the applicant will be mentored, what training is planned, and the anticipated timeline for preparation of academic products such as manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals planned during the period of support.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Title on the abstract page and the first page of the proposal.<\/li>\n<li>Sections:\n<ul>\n<li>Abstract summarizing the application in 30 or fewer lines on a separate page not included in the 10-page limit.<\/li>\n<li>The proposal is limited to 10 single-spaced pages formatted as indicated above.<\/li>\n<li>The 10 pages <strong>include both<\/strong> the research plan and the career development plan.<\/li>\n<li>The 10-page limit includes specific aims and figures but does not include references.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is up to the applicant to decide how to allocate the 10 pages.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Mentor Letter<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This letter should narrate the training plan for the applicant with a clear rationale for the components, as well as provide comments indicating how the applicant\u2019s project relates to the mentor\u2019s research expertise. The mentor should indicate a significant track record for mentoring investigators to independence.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Mentor\u2019s NIH Biosketch<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mentor\u2019s NIH biosketch should indicate active extramural funding that runs concurrently with the applicant\u2019s entire Vanderbilt Faculty Research Scholars appointment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Letters of Reference<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Letters from two individuals who are familiar with the applicant\u2019s scientific and\/or clinical experience should provide insight into the applicant\u2019s potential as a scientist. These letters are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">in addition to<\/span> the mentor\u2019s and chair\u2019s letters of support.
