Rader, MD<br \/>\n2015 Guest Speaker<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-dev.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-my-dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1562\/2014\/09\/rader-headshot1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/>Dr.  Rader is the Seymour Gray Professor of Molecular Medicine at the  Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.\u00a0 He  serves as the Chair of the Department of Genetics as well as the Chief  of the Division of Translational Medicine and Human Genetics in the  Department of Medicine.\u00a0 He is also Associate Director of Penn\u2019s  Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rader\u2019s research focuses on the human genetics and functional  genomics of lipoprotein metabolism and atherosclerosis, as well as the  translational implications for novel therapeutic approaches. \u00a0He led the  scientific and clinical development of a first-in-class inhibitor of  microsomal transfer protein for the treatment of severe  hypercholesterolemia, which is now on the market.\u00a0 He has a particular  interest in HDL metabolism and function, and novel approaches to  targeting HDL metabolism and reverse cholesterol transport in the  treatment, prevention, and regression of atherosclerosis.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rader trained in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and  in human genetics and physiology of lipoprotein metabolism at the  National Institutes of Health.\u00a0 He has been on the Penn faculty since  1994.\u00a0 Dr. Rader is a member of the American Society of Clinical  Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and the Institute  of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.\u00a0 He is a recipient of  several awards including the Clinical Research Award from the American  Heart Association.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel J.
