Explicit instruction is about modeling and practicing to help students reach academic goals. We focus on explicit instruction in which the teacher selects an\u00a0important objective, specifies the\u00a0learning outcome, designs\u00a0structured\u00a0instructional experiences,\u00a0explains directly,\u00a0models\u00a0the skill being taught, and provides\u00a0scaffolded practice\u00a0to achieve mastery (NCII, 2019).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-452\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-dev.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-my-dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3220\/2019\/10\/Capture-14-650x588.jpg\" alt=\"Image of the modules for Explicit Instruction. This module introduces the concept of supporting practices necessary for successful implementation of explicit instruction. The module introduces how to use effective methods to elicit frequent responses. Throughout the module, educators will learn how eliciting frequent responses support instruction within the DBI framework.<\/p>\n<p>In this module, educators will learn about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How the supporting practices maximize engagement<\/li>\n<li>Various methods to elicit responses<\/li>\n<li>How to use these methods to elicit frequent responses that:\n<ul>\n<li>maintain or check accuracy of processing<\/li>\n<li>match student abilities<\/li>\n<li>use a variety of response formats (when appropriate)<\/li>\n<li>maximize student involvement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This module is divided into five parts, with an introduction and closing.
