{"id":62,"date":"2019-01-15T17:43:11","date_gmt":"2019-01-15T17:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/my.dev.vanderbilt.edu\/sigma\/?page_id=62"},"modified":"2020-01-02T17:16:44","modified_gmt":"2020-01-02T17:16:44","slug":"phase-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/my.dev.vanderbilt.edu\/sigma\/project-description\/phase-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Phase 2: Implementing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Co-Designing and Documenting Teachers\u2019 Enhanced Learning<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Working with experienced math teachers offers a unique opportunity for us as researchers to understand the challenges of ambitious instruction. Through our VFF conversations, we can document teachers\u2019 sensemaking about this work.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To document teachers\u2019 learning<\/strong>, we collect a variety of data to help us understand (a) teachers\u2019 current understandings of ambitious practice, and (b) the local learning resources at their schools. These include the content-based learning standards, curricular materials, student assessments, formal system and organizational positions, and organizational routines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To document teachers\u2019 understandings,<\/strong>\u00a0 we conduct interviews\u00a0during our initial visit about their learning goals and the resources and challenges they see in their work.<\/p>\n<p>After each VFF cycle is complete, we\u00a0meet with the\u00a0M<i>f<\/i>A LA partners to reflect on and refine the research design. The M<i>f<\/i>A LA partners conduct additional VFF cycles, with our remote support, as they learn to use this practice independent of the research team.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the academic year, <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">we invite participating teachers\u2019 feedback on the VFF cycles and ask for ideas about other ways to help teachers meet their learning goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Teachers also have a chance to revisit their visions of high-quality mathematics instruction and their views of students\u2019 mathematical capabilities.
