(only necessary if you haven&#8217;t already paid the registration fee)<strong>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Indigenous Engagement with Digital and Electronic Media<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-116 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-dev.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-my-dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2301\/2016\/11\/Kayapo-exhibit-2015-call-for-abstracts.png\" alt=\"Kayapo exhibit 2015, call for abstracts\" width=\"309\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The study of Indigenous media is a relatively new and rapidly expanding field combining innovative research in anthropology with theoretical perspectives from media studies.\u00a0 Currently, the field is evolving at such a \u201cdizzying\u201d rate that it is nearly impossible to keep track of all the innovations, novel applications, and sociocultural impacts transpiring. \u00a0We invite researchers and media makers to join us to share and discuss these rapid changes in Indigenous media with a focus on Latin America.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #c00000\">Call for Abstracts<\/span> <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We are interested in a variety of topics and approaches (ranging from viewer\/user agency to media effects), including, but not limited to how different groups may engage and be impacted by media as they:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Watch, interpret, or create television messages<\/li>\n<li>Fashion, comprehend and interact with radio texts<\/li>\n<li>Construct and view their own cultural representations on film and upload them to the Internet<\/li>\n<li>Build websites to archive culture materials<\/li>\n<li>Construct social networks in cyberspace among themselves and other groups<\/li>\n<li>Utilize cell phones to not only communicate but also film in culturally appropriate manners<\/li>\n<li>Preserve disappearing languages<\/li>\n<li>Encourage intergenerational dialog and cultural transmission<\/li>\n<li>Record events for political leverage<\/li>\n<li>Explore new marketing or consumption opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Are simply expressive and creative in conceptualization of cultural identity through media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #bf0000\"><strong>We welcome presentations on:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Institutional analysis <\/strong>of Indigenous media (e.g. the evolution of traditional and new spaces and platforms for expression of Indigenous concerns, the impact of transnational networking with other Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples);<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Textual analysis<\/strong> (e.g. content analysis of themes, genres, representations, as well as current thinking on authenticity of Indigenous media in terms of hybridity and indigeneity);
