{"id":13,"date":"2017-02-24T18:20:51","date_gmt":"2017-02-24T18:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/my.dev.vanderbilt.edu\/heatherjohnson\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2017-02-25T19:06:42","modified_gmt":"2017-02-25T19:06:42","slug":"secondary-science-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/my.dev.vanderbilt.edu\/heatherjohnson\/secondary-science-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Secondary Science Education at Vanderbilt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In coursework and fieldwork experiences, candidates in the secondary science education trajectory work toward answering the question, <strong><em>How<\/em><em> can we teach science to make it meaningful for learners?<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>Through courses in Modeling, Science Literacies, Methods, and Practicum Experiences, including student teaching, students\u00a0examine the interrelationships between theory and practice in teaching science. On the theoretical side, they examine several underlying issues about the teaching of science: What does it mean to <em>know<\/em> science? How can we <em>understand and assess<\/em> what learners know? What kind of <em>doing<\/em> science is involved in learning science? How can we support learners as they <em>do<\/em> science?
