\"\"Learning Assistant Instructors\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Learning assistants, or LAs, are undergraduates who serve as peer educators in courses that they have previously taken. Supported by training in pedagogy, they extend the reach of faculty members implementing active learning components in a course and help provide personalized experiences that increase students\u2019 sense of belonging.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this learning community, faculty who are currently working with LAs or are considering doing so in the future meet via Zoom on the\u00a0first and third Tuesday of the month, 1:30-2:30<\/strong>, to discuss challenges, successes, and the approaches they are trying. Online and Hybrid Teaching Working Group <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

In this series of three meetings via Zoom, our group will explore experiential teaching online through the lens of telecollaboration, online community engagement, and online course design. Join us for one, two or all three of these conversations in which we will explore resources and challenges associated with experiential online and hybrid courses.\u202f\u202f<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Tuesday, March 1, 3-4pm <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Telecollaboration and Virtual Exchange<\/b>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

V<\/span>irtual exchange <\/span>and telecollaboration require<\/span> students from different countries, cultures, or contexts <\/span>to <\/span>collaborate to accomplish a task online, typically using video conferencing. For this meeting, we will prepare by listening to a<\/span>n<\/span> interview with two experts in <\/span>virtual exchange<\/span>, then <\/span>meet together<\/span> at 3pm <\/span>to discuss how this form of experiential online learning might apply to our contexts.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Online Community Engagement<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Online community engagement allows students to engage in service and practical learning experiences even when they cannot be physically present in a community. <\/span>For this meeting, we will prepare by listening to a<\/span>n<\/span> interview with experts in <\/span>online community engagement<\/span>, then meet together <\/span>at 3pm <\/span>to discuss how this form of experiential online learning might apply to our contexts.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tuesday, April 19, 3-4pm<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Experiential Online Course Design<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>There are a variety of existing models for designing experience-based online courses<\/span>. For this meeting, we will prepare by <\/span>reading an overview of the most widely used experiential models<\/span>, then <\/span>meet together<\/span> at 3pm<\/span><\/span>to discuss <\/span>our challenges and next steps in designing experi<\/span>ential online courses.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
