If you&#8217;ve been enjoying that series,\u00a0you might like to see these student projects Wednesday afternoon. The poster session will include a diverse range of projects that integrate GIS-based spatial analyses. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>If you\u2019re interested in exploring options for using GIS in your teaching at Vanderbilt, please contact the CFT for a one-on-one consultation, or <a href=\"http:\/\/cft.vanderbilt.edu\/events\/graduate-student-teaching-event-for-professional-development-gradstep\/\">attend gradSTEP<\/a> where Todd Hughes (Director of Instructional Technologies, Center for Second Language Studies),\u00a0Beth Koontz (CFT GTF, Department of Anthropology) and <\/em><br \/>\n<em>Zoe Leblanc (HASTAC Scholar, History) will present a session on\u00a0Adding Spatial Dimensions to Teaching. They&#8217;ll be\u00a0demonstrating how geospatial tools like GIS and GPS can be used to leverage space and place in your own instruction, engage students in the production of knowledge, and engender higher order thinking skills.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cft.vanderbilt.edu\/spatial.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12505\" title=\"spatial\" src=\"http:\/\/cft.vanderbilt.edu\/spatial-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a>Spatial Analysis: <\/strong><strong>Multidisciplinary Applications<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>A Student Poster Conference<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Wednesday, December 5<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>2:30-4:00 p.m.<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>101 Garland Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>View and chat about a diverse range of projects that integrate GIS-based spatial analyses.\u00a0 Students from Anthropology, Earth and Environmental Science, and the Peabody School of Education will present their final project posters for the course ANTH 280: Introduction to GIS and Remote Sensing (taught by Prof. Steve Wernke, Anthropology).<\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Research on a variety of topics will be presented: <\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Spatial network analysis in archaeology<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Stream flow modeling in riverine systems<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Visibility (viewshed) analysis of archaeological settlements <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Marketing optimization for business<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Identifying and mitigating healthy food deserts<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Spatial patterning of childhood health risks<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Crime hotspots and their implications for at-risk youth<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>And more!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Refreshments will be provided!
