The three competition categories are Level I, Level II, and Levels III\/IV.\u00a0<\/span>Up to 8 students total per school.<\/span><\/p>\n

Level I and Level II. The judge(s) will pick a topic at random. Student has 45 seconds to collect his\/her thoughts before addressing the topic for 60 seconds (Level I) or 90 seconds (Level II). No dictionary or outside help is permitted. Topics are <\/span>Familie und Freunde<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Haus\/Wohnung und Wohnort<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Schulleben<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Sport und Freizeit<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Essen<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Kleidung und Wetter<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Hausarbeiten<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Level III\/IV. The judge(s) will pick a topic at random. Student has 1 minute to prepare, during which time he\/she may make notes, if desired. No dictionary or outside help is permitted. Then they will address the topic for 2 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Criteria for Judging:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Clarity and fluency<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Grammatical accuracy<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Range of vocabulary<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Creativity and liveliness<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
