I earned my PhD from Ewha Womans Unviersity, South Korea, in February 2023. During my PhD, I explored structural colors using metasurfaces and investigated methods to dynamically control these structural colors through external stimuli. Currently, my focus lies in understanding how to tune optical properties in both the visible and mid-infrared (MIR) regions using 2D materials and metasurfaces.\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/my.dev.vanderbilt.edu\/caldwellgroup\/people\/kowalski\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-dev.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-my-dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2532\/2017\/07\/Kowalski-150x150.png\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-536\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-536'>\n\t\t\t\tMr. Ryan Kowalski joined the Caldwell Lab in Fall 2019 as a student in the Interdisciplinary Materials Science Program at Vanderbilt. She is now a Ph.D. student in the Interdisciplinary Materials Science program studying under Dr. Joshua Caldwell. Here she studies the confinement of electromagnetic energy in the nano- to atomic-scale for various applications including fabrication of optimized gas sensors.\n\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/my.dev.vanderbilt.edu\/caldwellgroup\/people\/current-members\/ragle_headshot-for-website\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-dev.vanderbilt.edu\/t2-my-dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2532\/2022\/03\/Ragle_Headshot-for-website-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-926\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-926'>\n\t\t\t\tCourtney Ragle studied Chemistry and Journalism as an undergraduate at Fort Lewis College in Colorado. After graduating, she took several years away from academia as a guide for various outdoor activities,  then worked in pharmaceuticals for a while before returning to school at Vanderbilt University to pursue a PhD in Interdisciplinary Materials Science (IMS). His academic background includes completing an M.Sc. in Physics from Wright State University, Ohio, followed by his B.Sc., majoring in Physics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
