This photo was taken at Griffith Observatory on my Jan. 4 trip to LA. It was raining hard and I was soaking wet. Though the view of the city was covered by the fog, the tour in the observatory was still amazing. Despite the fog, you can still make out the silhoutte of the astronomers on the Astronomers Monument!

This is a picture of my brother and I taken in my backyard at home. Home for me is in Trussville, Alabama; which is about twenty minutes outside of Birmingham. I am a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering and I plan on minoring in Astronomy and Engineering Management. Outside of class, I am a member of the rowing team, as well as the Dore for a Day program. I find astronomy very interesting and am looking forward to learning some cool stuff in this class.

My name is Cortneia, and I am from Phoenix, Arizona! My major is Physics with a concentration in Astronomy. I have always loved space (I even wrote my college essay on it), and I really look forward to this class and all the things I will learn in it!
Lavender is a beautiful flower that goes by the scientific name Lavandula angustifolia. It thrives many soil conditions and is a fairly hearty plant. It is commonly used as a decoration, for which it is superb, as it can bloom twice in one season and comes in a variety of colors. It has also been used in cooking and other culinary activities, as a medicinal herb, and as an aromatic. You can learn more about the lavender plant here.

Hello there, my name is Noah Herrero. I’m a freshman planning on majoring in Physics with a minor in Astronomy. The image above is from two years ago where my dad and I went out to Pennsylvania in attempt to observe the Great Conjunction. I have some experience self studying astronomy for Science Olympiad and have enjoyed every second of it. However, most of the stuff I have read revolves around celestial objects outside the solar system, so I’m very excited for what this class has to offer.

Hello and welcome to my blog, which I’ve created to discuss some of the topics of my Astronomy class. I’m fairly new to Astronomy, but am definitely interested in all of the ideals it explores. For now, I’d like to share with you why I’ve added a photo of Big Bend National Park. When I think about the stars, the very idea of the night sky is tied to this place for me.
